He could not complete his "Book of Love"

But the spirit of Srinivas is reborn each year
in each debutante director who receives the award.

It was while directing his first film - Prema Pusthakam Book of Love) - that fate, in the form of a cruel wave from the sea, claimed the life of Gollapudi Srinivas in 1992 at the very young age of 26.

His family sought to perpetuate his memory by providing recognition to excellence in debutante Indian filmmakers.

The winner is felicitated with a cash award of Rs. 150,000 (which has been increased from Rs. 100,000) along with a memento. The award is announced every year on March 17th and given away in Chennai on August 12 at a glittering function graced by the most eminent people of the film industry worldwide.
